That Old Chestnut Again

Tom Carroll ⬥ 5 July

There are few things more American than eating hot dogs outside on a warm summer day. And there is almost nothing more American than Joey “Jaws” Chestnut scarfing down 62 hot dogs to win the Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island on July 4th for the fifth straight year.

As ESPN reports, Chestnut took home the Nathan’s Mustard Belt as well as $10,000 in prize money for his victory on Monday. Unfortunately, I noticed this morning that Chestnut does not own his domain name, JoeyChestnut.com. According to the WHOIS records, the domain belongs to a gentleman in Philadelphia and resolves to a page parked by Go Daddy. Instead, Chestnut uses the domain JoeyJawsChestnut.com for his official website – JoeyChestnut.com was registered less than five months before Chestnut registered JoeyJawsChestnut.com.

We’ve seen this too many times before. Regardless of whether you’ve downed 63 hot dogs in 10 minutes or hit 63 home runs in a season, athletes and other celebrities should be sure to register their domain names as soon as possible. If not, someone else definitely will.
